From the musical pen of the talented IMAX and television composer, Alan Williams comes a magical, dynamic and beautiful score for the Hans Christian Andersen fable THE PRINCESS AND THE PEA. While this film may not be a Disney or a Dreamworks animated adventure the sound of the film was certainly given the quality of one with this superb score. The songs, which start off straight way and cover the first eight tracks, are penned by Williams himself with lyrics by David Pomeranz. The orchestrations are marvellous with each song given its own distinctive sound in that Disney-esque style, immediately sweeping the listnener into the fantasy-musical world. This quality permeates its way into the original score where there is some excellent writing for full symphony orchestra. The music flows from the subdued 'Prologue' to the drama of 'Rollo's Quest' to the outstanding action of 'The Fire', 'Laird Escapes' and 'Rescue'. The music Alan Williams has written for this animated movie is outstanding and he can certainly be placed in the same class as that of more famous names such as Alan Menken, James Horner and he most definitely gives Media Ventures an absolute run for their money. Why Alan Williams is not scoring for Disney and Dreamworks I can only wonder. One thing is for sure, they would be getting their money's worth! Brilliant!
