The more I listen to the scores of Alan Williams, the more I am convinced this is a composer that should be scoring mainstream Hollywood films. It seems as if Williams is destined to remain an excellent craftsman scoring IMAX and television films. Is this guy toiling away unnoticed? Hollywood needs to take notice of this composer. As I have previously mentioned in other reviews regarding Alan Williams’ work, his scores are always well written, beautifully orchestrated and performed with integrity. Tiny Heroes is no different. I know absolutely nothing about the film itself but judging from the cover it is an animated feature film (for television?) made for “Feature Films For Families.” After listening to Williams’ other animated score The Princess And The Pea and now this score, it is clear that he excels in this genre. Tiny Heroes has a superb main theme with full on brass and strings. This theme ties everything together but is aided by a variety of different motifs and themes throughout the album. There are no clever tricks in the music or an attempt to try and create music for an animated film with a difference. Alan Williams has simply created a well produced and very listenable action adventure score. I do always feel the temp track shines through in places with Williams’ music and in this case I believe that James Horner’s Balto was possibly present. This is a compliment because I do believe Horner is the master of big animated feature film scoring and to capture some of that spirit and richness which appears in Horner’s animated work and translate it into Williams’ own style is very clever indeed. Alan Williams’ has written some excellent scores for animated films and Tiny Heroes is one of them.
